Kalimirich/Black pepper

  • Cough: Take ¼ teaspoon of finely ground black pepper mixed with honey 2-3 times a day.
  • Tooth pain: A decoction made of black pepper is used to gargle to cure toothache.
  • Digestion: Mix equal quantities of black pepper, ginger, cumin and rock salt and grind the mixture. Give 1 gm of this powder after meals with warm water. Helps to improve digestive fire and relieve indigestion. You may even add 1/2 teaspoon of this mixture to glass of buttermilk and consume it post lunch.
  • Asthma: Mix equal quantities of black pepper, long pepper, and dried ginger powder. Take 1 teaspoon of this powder along with honey every morning. 
  • Skin: For skin problems like eczema and scabies, cook black pepper powder in some clarified butter or ghee until the mixture gets charred. Apply this mixture on the affected skin.
  • Blocked nose: To clear blocked nose, sniff the mixture of finely powdered black pepper, cumin, cardamom and cinnamon to induce sneezing.

Precautions– 

Because of its hotness, it increases Pitta. Hence, it needs to be used carefully in people with gastritis, burning sensation and sensitive stomach. Pitta dominant people may face black pepper allergy in the form of vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, watery eyes etc.

Because of its Avrushya – anaphrodisiac effect, it needs be used in less quantities or its long-term usage is best avoided in men with infertility problems.

It can be taken in moderate quantities during pregnancy, lactation and in children.
