Dhanyak/Coriander

  • Natural coolant: Take 10 gms of crushed coriander seeds. Add six parts i.e. 60 ml of water to it. Keep it covered overnight. In the morning strain it and mix 5 gms sugar. Drink it on empty stomach in the morning. Beneficial for Pitta disorders or excessive heat in the body during summers or fever or for people who have excessive heat in the body in general or those who have insatiable thirst all the time. It also acts as a good detox drink. 
  • Diuretic: Mix cumin, coriander, and fennel in equal proportions in a cup of water and bring it to a boil. Let it simmer for some time. Drink it 2-3 times a day. This tea is a great diuretic and helps in case of cystitis or irritation in the urinary system. 
  • Indigestion: Add 1 teaspoon of coriander seeds and a slice of ginger to a glass of water. Boil it and simmer for a few minutes. Drink it after meals. Helps in indigestion caused due to ama. 
  • Antioxidant: Soak 1 teaspoon of coriander seeds in a cup of water overnight. Next day strain and drink this liquid on empty stomach. 2- 3 gms of powder when consumed with water is also beneficial.  It helps reduce free radicals, therefore is a powerful antioxidant, beneficial against diabetes and cholesterol as well.
  • Headache: Paste prepared with coriander leaves when applied on the forehead helps to relieve the headache.
  • Diarrhea: A decoction prepared by boiling 1 teaspoon of coriander seeds in a glass of water and reducing it to half. Drink this decoction 2-3 times a day. Helps to control diarrhea, IBS or malabsorption syndrome.
  • Acne: A paste made with coriander, rose water and turmeric powder is effective against acnes, pimples, or blackheads. It is mainly due to its astringent properties.
